Hello all PC Matic users! First off, thank you for purchasing PC Matic and the confidence you are placing in us, PC Pitstop, to keep your PC’s running fast, stable, and secure. Thank you.

PC Matic is like no other PC maintenance tool. The key reason is PC Matic’s architecture is based on cloud computing. PC Matic behaves much more like a web site than a typical Windows application. For example, Google is always adding new features into its search application. There is no Google release 2.0. You just go to Google and the latest technology is always at your disposal. Simple.

The same is true with PC Matic. Each time you run PC Matic, it automatically updates with the most recent version. This allows us to add features on the fly. We can also fix bugs and tweak other issues all on the fly. You don’t need to do anything. We have received tremendous feedback on PC Matic, and we have implemented many new features since PC Matic’s launch. Since all of the updates are automatic, and the user doesn’t have to do anything, the only minus is sometimes users aren’t aware of all the new and cool features that have been placed in the product. Also, if you had a problem with PC Matic, most likely the issue has been fixed. Just rerun PC Matic. We’ll try to keep everyone up to date through this blog.

We ran a survey and one comment came back consistently. A lot of users like to run PC Matic, frequently and the user input screen pops up each and every time. It was frustrating and slowing down a lot of users. A very large design specializing in user experience told us to do it that way, but what do they know? Not much. So now the input screen only shows up during the first scan of a new computer, after that, the information is stored and can be updated via the options tab.

A very important feature of PC Matic is that it includes a 100% full blown anti malware engine. When I am diagnosing any new PC, I always want to see if they have any malware, and it is great to have it integrated into one scan. That said, many users already own their own anti malware solution, and the anti malware scan ads at least a minute to the overall scan time. There is now an a new option under scan options to disable to the scan.

Another great feature in PC Maticis an integrated defragmentation process. We believe that keeping your hard drive defragemented on a regular basis is critical for good PC performance. We recommend that your hard drive should be defragmented about once a month. We have learned that many users are running PC Matic far more frequently than that, so there is now an option to disable the defragmentation.

Here’s another new feature that I am really excited about. We call it Auto Fix. PC Matic, is already awesome because it has the industry’s only one-click Fix All, but you still have to click once to initiate the scan. Now with Auto Fix enabled, once you begin the scan, you can go get a cup a coffee and PC Matic will have scanned everything and fixed everything. Basically, we have achieved the holy grail with this new feature, One Fix. Check it out!

PC Pitstop has the best driver update technology in the world. It is a great feeling to keep your drivers up to date with the latest technology without having to constantly check the web or the deal with the multitude of driver installers. PC Matic takes care of all that for you. On the other hand, there are some out there that don’t want their drivers updated every time, and now there is an option for you too.

The PC Matic is anti malware engine is aggressive. That means that it errs on the side of removing potential problems. For the vast majority of people out there, including myself, we are fine. But some people, including some of our developers 😉 , like the risks of using torrents, wire sniffers, and the like. PC Matic now has the ability to configure which malware is removed from each scan. Furthermore, this information is stored in a permanent white list. Once it is on the white list, PC Matic won’t ever remove that program. The way to edit the white list permanently is through Options.

Netbook sales are on the rise. Personally, I would never own one, but my wife has one and she loves it. Since netbooks start off underpowered, they need PC Matic more than many computers. Here’s a tip for netbook users. The screen height of most netbooks is 600 pixels. That is the exact same height as PC Matic, but there is one little gotcha – the taskbar. The taskbar blocks the bottom part of PC Matic. In order to get around this, the taskbar should be hidden before PC Matic is initiated. Just right click on the taskbar and then choose autohide.

In conclusion, the main initial feedback was that users wanted much more control over what PC Matic is doing and also how much time it takes. Keep your eyes on this blog because we are working on many many more enhancements. In fact, we are just beginning. Thanks everyone for your support.

It’s our best ever and it’s getting better every day. PC Matic is already the most comprehensive PC maintenance and optimization tool available, but were not sitting back to rest. Each day we listen to your requests and start making the changes you want to see.

Your level of support has been surprising. Thank you for each and every suggestion. It’s only been a few weeks since our last PC Matic Blog and already we’ve made more changes and additions.

Originally PC Matic was designed to scan and analyze the first drive found. Defragmentation was required each and every run. You asked for the option to skip defragmentation and we added that as one of our first changes.

Many of the recent suggestions have asked for the option to scan and defragment all the drives in a system. We promised to listen and today that functionality is yours. PC Matic’s Drive Analysis now includes multiple drives, you can scan and defrag all the drives on your system. The analysis provides:

1. Most Fragmented Files Report

2. Frag. Analysis Test

3. Largest Files Report

4. Disk Composition Report

You can choose which drive you want to analyze and whether you want to skip defragmentation, defragment only, or defragment and optimize the drive. Don’t forget, PC Matic gives you the option to not only defrag your drive, but to optimize the file position for best performance.

Each change you request gives PC Matic more depth and increases it’s effectiveness. Our goal is to remain the most comprehensive computing tool available. We are already looking through today’s suggestions to see what’s next. Thank you for your tremendous support.

Thanks for all the suggestions and unprecedented support for PC Matic.

It’s been only a couple of weeks since our last announced PC Matic update, but I told you we weren’t just sitting around. Even more improvements and additions have been made, almost before the last PC Matic Blog hit our Newsletter.

Registry Cleaning, Registry Cleaning, Registry Cleaning. You asked for it and we delivered it. PC Matic now delivers a much deeper registry cleaning. All the left over junk from program removal is now found and tossed out by PC Matic. More missing file entries and more corrupted registry entries are collected and cleared to keep you system lean and mean.

In the past registry cleaning was available only for a single user account, but now multiple users can take advantage of an even more comprehensive and thorough cleaning.

Here’s a new feature we’ve been working on for quite a while. PC Matic now removes any patch uninstaller older than 90 days. These are shown in the Control Panel/Add Remove Programs section under Show System Updates. Please note that these are the patch uninstallers and not the patches themselves. Most installed program patches come with uninstallers and these are not removed by default as new patches are added. After a time the space wasted by the uninstallers adds up. PC Matic removes these and gives you back a significant amount of space.

If you’re using PC Matic to improve your system performance you know how much your system speed is dependent on tweaking your your internet connection. If you’ve been experiencing internet connections that come and go, weak wireless connections, now you will notice a major improvement.

After using PC Matic, your system will find connections faster and maintain them. Recent improvements have changed the maximum default caches size to lower the wait time between connection searches. Not only does this speed up your connection time but it stops the false “No Wireless Available” message that’s given when actually, no connection was searched for. Now if you are using PC Matic and receive the “no connection” message, you can bet that it’s only after a complete search and not the result of a default timeout.

Several people have asked whether PC Matic deletes cookies, so let’s take a quick look. The only cookies that PC Matic removes are tracking cookies. PC Matic does not remove Log In or Log In information cookies. Using PC Matic will not remove program log in information.

It’s no surprise that many people who enjoy file sharing also use PC Matic. PC Matic is an excellent way to protect systems that are exposed to the threats associated with sharing activity. Here’s an example of a recent question we received.

Stephanie P asks: I use LimeWire on my system and PC Matic removed it. I have reinstalled LimeWire and would like it not to be removed the next time I clean my PC. Can I do that?

Yes! Programs like LimeWire leave behind files that are recognized by most users and PC Matic as high level threats. However, if you want to allow this information to stay on your system, PC Matic can do that. You need only to add your file sharing program entries to the PC Matic White List.

The White List tells PC Matic what NOT TO REMOVE. Here’s how. After you run a scan and before you click FixAll, click on the red rectangle on the results page under the Security section to look for high-level threats. Find the LimeWire process ( or any high level threat for that matter) and add it to the White List. You can do this for any item you want keep on your system.

That’s it for this installment. Remember these features are already added and just using your program gives you the benefits immediately. That’s the beauty of cloud computing. Enjoy the improvements and thanks for your overwhelming support.

Thanks for you help in developing this extraordinary tool.

PC Matic now allows you to customize your scanning and cleaning.

Want a comprehensive diagnostic including a scan for malware – no problem.
Perhaps you prefer an analysis of your disks and an evaluation of your system’s benchbarks – also not a problem.

When scanning with PC Matic, you can now customize your analysis to include or exclude disk health, benchmarking, and malware scanning.

Also note, PC Matic now allows you to customize the application’s cleaning power. For licensed versions of PC Matic Auto Fix is off by default. If checked, the clean will begin automatically, after the scan, without user input. This option streamlines regular maintenance, however, you will not receive an overview before the fixes are completed.

Each time you run PC Matic, it automatically updates with the most recent version. You don’t need to do anything.

PC Matic Used to Recover Stolen Laptops

$

The figures are staggering. Close to 1 million laptops stolen each year. More than 12,000 laptops are left in airports each year. Our, always on, mobile lifestyle is causing those figures to skyrocket.

Loosing a device costing close to $2,000.00 can be a jolting experience, but the loss of data and identity can be devastating, even life changing. An astonishing 97% are never recovered.

Not long after the release of PC Matic, we received an interesting request through our Customer Service Department. One of our PC Matic users was the victim of theft. His laptop had been stolen. He contacted us to see if it would be possible to trace the laptop using PC Matic. The answer was yes.

Access your PC Matic account from any PC , log into your account, schedule one or as many scans as you like. When the thief uses your laptop and connects to the Internet, the scan will run. The IP address is recorded and BINGO, you have the location of your laptop.

If the location is a public place, like the local Starbucks, it’s an easy matter for authorities to view the store’s surveillance tape. PC Matic provides not only the location but the time that the scan was run. If the IP turns out to be a private residence, that’s even better.

Since this first request we have had several more victims come to us. Scheduling multiple scans will increase the chance of catching the laptop plugged in and connected. You can actually schedule a scan for every hour if you like. Once the scan has completed it’s a simple matter to provide the IP to law enforcement.

Here’s an example of the most recent request.

Hello,

I am a current user of PC Pitstop and my laptop was stolen from my residence on Monday. I am trying to see if we can force PC Pitstop to run on the stolen computer and then obtain the IP
address from where the computer sent the data from. Can you assist me with this.

Thanks

______________

Thank you for contacting PC Pitstop Customer Service.

Which laptop was stolen, XXXXX or YYYYY Both laptops have weekly scans scheduled. If you receive an email that a scan was successful, let us know and we can look at the data that
was captured and see if there was a useful IP address.

Hey Doug,

There is a computer under this account named YYYYY that completed a scheduled test at 11:40am today. I’m not sure if this was the stolen computer or not, but the IP Address was
11.111.1.111. The IP Address from the test run on Sept 1st was 22.222.2.222. None of the other PCs on the account have been run since Monday though. If they do get an email, let me
know and I’ll run the query again to get the IP Address.

___________

This is not the complete exchange that took place and the information has been changed to protect privacy but you get the picture. It’s surprising that the thieves aren’t smart enough to avoid being traced, but then again, anyone dumb enough to steal a laptop isn’t very smart to begin with

When we designed PC Matic it never crossed our minds that the program could be used in this way, but we’re very happy that PC Matic can supply the information needed to track, find, and recover stolen laptops.

One other thing, don’t forget to notify your local authorities as soon as you are aware of the theft. Fill out a report immediately. If your laptop turns up in another city it will be much easier for local authorities to contact the proper agency.

Happy Computing

PC Matic – 2010 Marks Dramatic Improvements

$

First of all, thank you very much. Your faith that PC Pitstop will keep your systems running clean and fast is our reward for 2010. We respect this trust and want to tell you about some of the improvements and additions that were made to PC Matic this past year.

Beginning with the introduction of PC Matic in August of 2009 we designed our software to take advantage of Cloud technology. Cloud technology allows updates, changes, additions and improvements to be made without the cumbersome rewrites and time wasting downloads of new versions of older software. When you open PC Matic, improved functionality is yours with one click. Each time you open PC Matic you are using the most up-to-date version available.

Enough stump thumping, lets get to the improvements made this year.

PC Matic 2010 Improvements
1)

PC Matic is now available with a realtime antivirus. Called PC Matic RT, this powerful antivirus rivals and will surpass many of the familiar products that use older technology. It is designed to give your computer the best possible protection without bringing your system to a crawl. PC Matic RT sits in your system tray and is almost invisible as it protects all areas of your system. Until you receive a warning, you will never know it’s there. PC Matic RT stops infections before they start.

2)

PC Matic now removes old Windows Update Uninstallers. This is a big space waster. The savings can be measured in gigabytes of drive space.

3)

PC Matic now changes the default cache size of Internet connections to give you faster Internet. Increasing the speed of your Internet connection provides a noticeable improvement.

4)

We have updated the White List to accomodate LimeWire or GOTOMYPC Products as you requested. Some applications carry more risk than others. The choice is yours.

5)

The option of scanning and defragging multiple drives is now available. You can defrag and optimize all of the drives used by your system.

6)

Skip defragmentation completely if you like. Our defragmentation application is complete and advises you of fragmentation not shown by other programs. If you want a complete defragmentation use PC Matic. We also offer drive optimization. PC Matic will place your information where it needs to be and where it can be easily found by your system.

7)

We have improved World Rank and color coding so you can see the results at a glance. PC Matic gives you an easy to read indicator of your computer’s performance, a ranking that will tell you how your system is doing when compared to others.

8)

You can now skip Driver updates allowing you to save time and giving you more control. If your hardware is working flawlessly maybe you want to keep your current drivers. Maybe you just installed a particular driver that someone recommended.

9)

You can even choose specific drivers to update. Now you can choose whether to update your mouse driver, video driver or your sound driver. It’s your choice.

10)

We’ve added the option of skipping the malware scan completely to save time . We live in a busy world. Maybe you just want a quick tuneup and know your system is not infected.

11)

Skip video and Benchmarks = save time. You told us you wanted the ability to choose what the program does each time you use it and that is what we’ve done.

12)

We have added AutoFix to provide a ONE CLICK scan and fix. No need to sit and wait. One click and you are done.

13)

You can now edit your account profile and change your email address or update and change your passwords. It’s all available in your PC Matic control panel.

14)

The scheduler now includes, TODAY. The scheduler has always been popular but many wanted it to include scanning later that same day. You can now schedule scans later that same day.

15)

We have improved the driver installation notification. Installation notification tells you when your drivers have been updated and sends an alert.

16)

Scan, analyze and fix System Restore to Save drive space. Hard drive size has grown tremendously over the years so has Windows System Restore size. No one needs gigabytes of restore images. PC Matic corrects this Windows oversight. PC Matic gives you back your storage space

17)

Notification of firewall interruption = increased user control. Your firewall is designed to block access to and from your computer. Now you will know when your firewall is stopping the connection that PC Matic needs.

18)

Increased Registry Cleaning. We have improved on our already excellent registry tweaks and cleaning. PC Matic gives you a thorough cleaning without removing necessary files. Don’t let other cleaners remove the important files you need.

19)

Nitro is now added to PC Matic. Nitro is our download manager and is now included free as a part of PC Matic. There is nothing to do. Each time you download data Nitro will boot your speed by as much as 200%. The boost will vary according to your ISP’s restrictions and is designed to help with large files. Nitro replaces the default download manager used by your browser. Save time downloading music, movies, videos, and large files. Simply OK the additon of Nitro & instantly boost download speeds.

20)

PC Pitstop is partnering with Mozy to offer up to 2GB FREE online backup for all your files and photos that you need to keep safe from catastrophes like hard drive failure.

We will continue to take advantage of Cloud Computing to update, improve, and add to the cutting edge functionality that is today’s PC Matic. Let us know you thoughts, and please tell us your needs for 2011. It’s our wish that PC Matic remains your most trusted and valued software. Thanks again to all of our friends.
